Video Poker is one of the very few games in a casino where a player can have an edge on the house, but this requires skillful play, and for the player to follow an optimal strategy. Furthermore, not every video poker machine can be tipped into the player’s favor, as the payout scale has a dramatic effect on a machine’s profitability.
One machine that has a liberal payout scale, and can offer a 100% return to the player is the Deuces Wild Video Poker machine. The basic strategy that will allow you to show a positive return on these slot machines is to always choose the best option from the list below –this will require you to sometimes break a ‘Pat-Hand’ in favor of a draw to a monster, but these decisions have good long-term expectation:
When you are dealt 4 deuces1. 4 deuces – This is the jackpot hand! When you are dealt 3 deuces2. A pat royal flush 3. 3 deuces only When you are dealt 2 deuces4. Any pat four of a kind or higher 5. 4 cards to a royal flush 6. 4 cards to a straight flush with 2 consecutive cards, 6-7 or higher 7. 2 deuces only When you are dealt 1 deuce8. Any pat four of a kind or higher 9. 4 cards to a royal flush 10. Full house 11. 4 cards to a straight flush with 3 consecutive cards, 5-7 or higher 12. 3 of a kind, straight, or flush 13. 4 cards to a straight flush 14. 3 cards to a royal flush 15. 3 cards to a straight flush with 2 consecutive cards, 6-7 or higher 16. A lone deuce When you are not dealt a 217. 4 cards to a royal flush 18. Made three of a kind to straight flush 19. 4 cards to a straight flush 20. 3 cards to a royal flush 21. Pair 22. 4 cards to a flush 23. 4 cards to an outside straight 24. 3 cards to a straight flush 25. 4 cards to an inside straight, except missing deuce 26. 2 cards to a royal flush, J,Q high
So, if you are dealt three-of-a-kind with a single 2 (#12 on this list) you would break this hand if you also had 4-cards to a straight flush (#11 on the list), such as 7c-8c-9c-7d-2d. As you can see in the Deuces Wild game it’s better to keep a single pair than to keep 2-pair, and there are numerous instances where you will break a pat hand to draw to a bigger hand, especially when you have a number of Deuces in your hand.
